5 Tips for Dealing with Bullies
There are a lot of positive, supportive people in the world, but unfortunately bullies still exist and you are likely to encounter some form of bullying in your lifetime. We asked our Shimmur Fam how they deal with haters and this is the advice they shared with us:
1. Ignore, ignore, ignore
Bullies tease and torment to get a reaction from their victim. The best thing that you can do is pay them no attention at all. Even though their words and actions may hurt you, act like you’re unfazed. When they realize they can't control your feelings, they will most likely get bored and go away.
2. Smile anyway
Like Selena says, just kill ‘em with kindness! If a bully is throwing negative vibes your way, try complimenting them or shooting a smile their way. They’ll be thrown off by your warm energy and won’t know how to respond. It's a good bet they will quickly make an exit!
3. Ask For Help
Sometimes the best thing you can do is get an adult involved. Tell a teacher or relative about the issues you’re having with the bully and let them help you figure it out from there.
4. Confuse TheM
The next time a bully tries to get you down just laugh along with them or tell them a sarcastic joke. If you’re not giving in to their negativity, they won’t be inclined to continue throwing all that shade. You will strip them of their power in an instant!
5. Be Vocal, but Don’t Fight Back!
There is nothing wrong with standing up for yourself, especially if you do it in a smart, calm way. Let them know that bullying is wrong and that trying to hurt someone’s feelings isn’t cool. Once you’ve said your piece, walk away and tell an adult.
As much as we hate to admit it, bullies are a fact of life! But the best thing you can do is rise above the drama. Recognize that bullies act out to make themselves feel better about their own lives. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be to ignore them! No one has the power to dim your light, so keep on shining bright and being the rockstar that you are!
